Solve the puzzle, collect the box — except the box doesn't always appear where the puzzle was.
Cluemaster Puzzle Boxes in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight are the 60 physical reward containers that spawn after solving each Cluemaster Puzzle across Gotham's nine districts — sometimes adjacent to the solved mechanism, sometimes inside a cage, behind a door, or on a different rooftop level entirely.
This guide tracks where each box physically appears, separate from where the puzzle was solved.
All 60 locations are included on our LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight interactive area maps.
The First Challenge Room Unlocks the Rest
No Cluemaster Puzzle Boxes are collectable anywhere in Gotham until the first Cluemaster Challenge Room is completed — a gating condition that isn't obvious from the map.
During "The Dynamic Duo" Robin mission, the first Cluemaster encounter introduces the system; after completing the initial Challenge Room that follows, the remaining 59 boxes become available across all districts.
If tower activation reveals Cluemaster Puzzle icons but no boxes are appearing, the Challenge Room step hasn't been completed yet.
Story-Gated Boxes: Four Character Milestones
Many boxes are locked behind specific character unlocks regardless of which puzzle has been solved:
- After "Dynamic Duo" mission — the majority of boxes become collectable, including most of Tricorner #4, Old Gotham South #2–4, Old Gotham North #2–3 and #5, Old Gotham West #2.
- After "Ice Man Cometh" (Nightwing unlocked) — Tricorner #1 and #2 become available. Both require Nightwing's Electric Cable Launcher to solve their respective puzzles.
- After "Out of Commission" (Batgirl unlocked) — Tricorner #3 and Old Gotham South #1 unlock. Both need Batgirl's Hackarang or Drone to progress.
- After "Rough and Tumble" (Talia unlocked) — Old Gotham North #1, Old Gotham West #1, and remaining Talia-gated boxes unlock.
Puzzle Rooms: The Box Is Always Behind a Door
When a district includes a Cluemaster Puzzle Room — the more elaborate enclosed challenges — the reward box appears inside the Puzzle Room chamber, behind the door with the arrow pointing at it.
Old Gotham North's Puzzle Room box sits on the ground floor of a building on the southwestern side of the district.
These are among the easiest boxes to miss because players exit the room without checking every corner.

The Reward: Batman Serial Suit
Collecting all 60 Cluemaster Puzzle Boxes — one per solved puzzle — unlocks the Batman Serial Suit cosmetic and the A Watchful Collector achievement.
The suit, combined with completing the parallel Riddler Puzzle Box set, also unlocks the game's final "Riddler vs Cluemaster" Puzzle Room in Old Gotham West.
